Galleries launch arts celebration that combines social gathering with showcasing exhibits.

The event was an art work, one that featured only about 12 galleries, but each one showcasing a different type of art. At one gallery, there were poetry readings; at another; there were singers and guitar players.
A similar artistic atmosphere is what Bissett, who is the executive director of the Arts Center, and local gallery owners, and members of the Chamber of Commerce have in mind for Chapel Hill and Carrboro's first Art Crawl, which is to take place on Friday.
Courtney Collins talks with her friend Joe Brown at the Open Eye Cafe' in Carrboro. The fish artwork on the walls was created by Bob Lawrence and is being featured in the first Art Crawl, which is an effort to introduce residents to local art galleries.
